A letter to our users: The Printers Inc is closing down

11/01/2014 Posted by James Howgego No comments
It is with immense regret and sadness that we must announce the closure of The Printers Inc and our print on demand facilities.

As of 14th November The Printers Inc will cease to process print orders for users of our system and their customers. Shopping carts will become inactive and visitors will be asked to contact you as the artist or photographer directly. As artists and photographers you will still have access to your account and data with us until at least April 2015 – we will simply not be processing orders via the system.

We have been in talks recently with both investors and companies with the hope of securing a future for our business. Sadly, despite a backing being almost certain these talks have fallen through at the last hurdle, leaving us minus print facilities and no resources left with which to continue the business. These events have been entirely out of our control and it weighs heavily on us that we have to make this decision. We wanted to tell you at the first available opportunity to give you what little time we could to adapt to this change and to seek alternative providers.

James, Mark, the team and I have all worked solidly for the last two years on The Printers Inc – for free - because we were building something we were passionate about and we believed in. We didn’t always get things right, but we learnt quickly and built a solid, robust system that is used by nearly 2,000 artists across the world to sell their work online. We recently celebrated our first official Birthday, and at no point did we believe that 6 months later we would find ourselves here.

Sadly, not every start-up makes it. Ours is destined to be another one of those tales. We can’t help but feel that we have let you down, and for that we are truly sorry.

For everyone who holds an account with us, no doubt you have questions. We have set provisions in place that we intend to honour what we have outlined below. In addition, we want to offer you and your customers 50% off all prints ordered with us before 14th November (use the code TP50N). We will honour every single one of them.

Outstanding Orders

Any orders accepted by The Printers Inc until 14th November will be processed as normal and sent to your customers. After this date a notice will appear on your shopping carts informing the visitor to contact you directly.

Recent Account Upgrades

Any accounts upgraded within the last 45 days (as of the date of this notice) will be refunded in full. Unfortunately we will be unable to refund any account upgrades beyond this date. We will process these in the next 14 days through Eway - our merchant account provider.

Commission Payments

Any and all commission balances remaining (even below the £60 request limit) will be paid to you in full. Please request a PayPal transfer via the system by going to Dashboard>Request Payment. We cannot unfortunately send postal cheques but PayPal will ensure an instant transfer for you. All requests need to be in by 14th November in order to be processed, upon which date we will cease trading.

Artwork Ownership

We stated in our terms and conditions that we would never take any IP from your art, and this is still the case. Your data and artwork is yours, and we will not lock it and throw away the key. Our system will remain open beyond November 2014 and live until April 2015 and will allow you unlimited access to your data and images – we will simply not be processing orders. Should you wish to delete your account before that date, you can head into “Settings” and click “Delete Account”.

Seeing the hundreds of beautiful pieces of artwork rolling into our inboxes each morning has brighten our worlds. We will certainly miss it, and we thank you for sharing your creativity and your trust with us.

If there is anything you need from us, please just email to enquiries@theprintersinc.co.uk – no doubt there will be many questions, but we will do our utmost to respond to you each in turn and to help as best we can.

We are sad that is has come to this, but we wish you all the best for the future. Should you wish to investigate other Print on Demand providers, you may wish to search for sites such as Magnolia Box/Prodigi or Pixels.com, who we are aware of and would recommend getting in touch with.

Yours sincerely,

Nick, James and Mark.

Spotting Creative Copycats - A Useful Tip

8/06/2014 Posted by James Howgego No comments
Have you ever wondered where else your images exist on the internet?

There is a quick and easy way to find out and spot potential creative copycats.

Often it is brought to people's attention that their work is elsewhere by concerned fans. However, there is a way to browse the internet for your work that brings much more immediate results.

Google Reverse Image Search

Google Reverse Image Search allows you to identify where else your images are located on the internet. If you find a site that you aren't aware of or an individual passing themselves off as you, you can contact them and begin any necessary proceedings.

Using Reverse Image Search

All you have to do is either upload a copy (using the link above) and run the search.

Alternatively if you are using Chrome you can simply right-click on the image and then click "search Google for this image".

Once you have run the search you should see something like this. (We ran the search using our logo on our website homepage).

If there are any links or websites that you are unsure of that appear to have your artwork, check them out.
